New London group aiding families seeking rental assistance

New London — The New London Homeless Hospitality Center is providing free aid to individuals seeking to apply for funding from the state’s UniteCT emergency rental and utility assistance program.

The $235 million UniteCT program provides up to $10,000 in financial assistance for past due rent and up to $1,500 for utilities for eligible families impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Counseling in English and Spanish, along with access to computers to complete the online applications, is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays at All Souls New London, 19 Jay St. Tenants and landlords alike also can call (860) 439-1573 to schedule an appointment.

The initiative is an attempt to reach people who in some cases might need help gathering the documents necessary to complete the application. United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and the state Department of Housing additionally have been conducting a series of mobile clinics across the region.
