Marie Yovanovich stood firm
In recognition of the U.S. Foreign Service (observance May 7), let us in particular salute Marie Yovanovich, former ambassador to Ukraine, whose job was abruptly and unjustly terminated on May 20, 2019, due to political dirty tricks during the Trump re-election campaign. Her eloquent testimony during the first Trump impeachment trial did great honor to the State Department in spite of Secretary Pompeo and a president who cared nothing for integrity or the national interest.
I take pride that Ms. Yovanovich held firm to her oath of office and that she was nurtured in our state of Connecticut.
