Norwich — A local man faces multiple weapons charges stemming from a Sept. 15, 2020, incident in which police say he pointed a banned assault rifle from his apartment window at children playing outside.

Casey N. Moreo, 37, of 12 Gregory Road was charged Sunday with two counts of possession of high-capacity magazines and one count each of possession of an assault weapon, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $200,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on March 11.

Police said they had obtained a warrant for Moreo's arrest and took him into custody Sunday without incident.

Police said that on Sept. 15, officers were dispatched to Gregory Road after a juvenile reported seeing a man pointing a gun out of his third-floor apartment window at another juvenile playing outside, police said.

During the investigation, police said Moreo told them he was “agitated and expressed his displeasure” at the children playing near his apartment. He also told police the children playing caused him to lose sleep.

Police seized numerous firearms and accessories from Moreo’s apartment, including an AR-15 rifle banned in Connecticut, and two 32-round high-capacity magazines, which also are banned.
