Out with the old: Building being demolished at ferry terminal
New London — Workers on a boom lift Thursday were cutting concrete and chiseling away at the bricks just below the roofline of a section of the former gas plant building at Cross Sound Ferry's terminal.
Ferry spokesman Stanley Mickus explained the section of the building was used as storage for the company until it became structurally compromised and needed to be demolished. Munger Construction and Wiese Construction are the contractors for the demolition.
The space will be used for ferry staging and improved traffic flow.
The main section of the gas plant building at 2 Ferry St. will not be affected by the demolition.
