New London police union hosting food drive Saturday
New London — The city police union, along with partners ShopRite supermarkets and the Capano family, will hold a food drive Saturday in front of the ShopRite in the New London Mall.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, according to a news release Friday. The police union has collected food for the center by packing its "paddy wagon" since 2004, the release said.
Thanksgiving items, including turkeys, cranberry sauce and stuffing, will be accepted, as well as macaroni and cheese, tuna fish, peanut butter, canned goods (vegetables, soups and other goods), any type of pasta or rice, and cereal, the release said.
